A moment from my writing desk

Hello everyone! How are you doing this weekend? I know not everyone takes weekends off, and so it is different for each person, but wherever you are, I hope you are having a good Saturday.

Part of my weekend routine is writing, whether my Leelu book series, blog posts, or my other genre story I am writing at the moment.

My desk is the center of my writing. I do use my laptop once in a while to write up plot or ideas. But my favorite is my PC. I can sit here, turn around and look towards my balcony on one side, or towards the living room. It is an open space that fits me well.

Not always well organized, not always with everything in its place. But it has everything I need. It is, after all, my desk. I know why I have things here. I know why I have a stack of journals on one side and several pencil holders made out of old tea tins (the big ones), wide glass marmalade containers, proper pencil holders. There is also a collection of sticky note pads, and this and that odd end.

Everything is surrounding the main attraction, which is my keyboard. I even bought a pretty, colorful, retro round typewriter keyboard. I love it, honestly.

Beyond my desk, right behind it, sits my collection of sticky notes. Ideas come to me on the fly, whether I am at work, or doing my weekly food shop, or waiting in line, or in the middle of the night, which is when most of my ideas seem to appear. It makes sense. My mind is set to quiet mode, and whatever has been lurking there comes out, demanding attention. All of these notes are stuck up there to guide my plot, motives, whys, wheres, whats, like little fireflies waiting to become part of the story, or new stories even.

My sticky notes are little fireflies waiting to become stories

Most of those are for the mystery genre novel I am writing, which, to be honest, is the one that lives closest to my heart. But Leelu, hmm, she showed up one day, tapped me on the shoulder, and said, “Nope. You are writing me first.” And yes, I guess she was right. 🙂

So yes, my desk is a bit messy. I have lots of notes, journals, and sticky notes waiting for their place on the wall behind my desk, but somehow I know exactly where everything is. And if you think about it, that is how life is. It is not a rigid thing. It is a fluid thing, always moving, this way and that, always surprising us. Like when I find that picture of a comic book I want to read, and I keep looking for it, and then one day, boom, it is right under the monitor. I once read that a messy desk is a sign of a brilliant mind, so there you have it. I must be brill. 😀 Hehehe.

Above all, my desk is magical. It is mine. Every story I have written has started right here, and most daydreaming about other stories I want to write is done while I am sitting here, looking towards my balcony, tea in hand.

So go ahead, make a little mess on your writer desk and a little magic.

Until I write again,
